Hi and welcome! I like to think of therapy as a process of getting to know ourselves. As a clinician, I believe that we all want to lead lives of meaning and purpose but that sometimes we struggle to identify what’s most important to us and how to walk toward it. Other times circumstances make it difficult to find the sunshine again.
My approach to therapy centers on slowing down and noticing. I often begin sessions with a grounding exercise, encouraging you to become aware of your most present thoughts, sensations, and emotions. By partnering together, we will explore what may be holding you back from living more authentically and in alignment with your true self. To support our journey, I draw heavily on elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or DBT, which locates self-transformation within the tension between acceptance and change.
I believe that we all carry stories of ourselves—some that are helpful and others that we may need help to change. What is the story you are telling yourself now? Are there parts of it you would like to challenge or change? I would be honored to partner with you as you rewrite your story, add a new chapter, or share it from a different perspective.
An unexpected cancer diagnosis in my twenties as well as the death of a parent deepened my appreciation for somatic practices, especially yoga and dance, that brought me back to myself. Prior to my career in social work, I taught writing, literature, and film classes to university students and researched the ethics of imagination and perception in twentieth-century transatlantic literature. I love working with people undergoing life transitions of any kind, including career shifts, identity explorations, health challenges, and grief. Sometimes our greatest teachers arrive at the most unexpected times and in the least expected ways.
